When you order a print, Scott likes to have direct contact to discuss alternatives (rather than using a web-store). There are many alternatives, but the most popular for wall-mounted fine-art photo prints include unframed high-resolution matte prints on foam-core boards or aluminium sandwich plates. Canvas is also enjoyed by many, and there are many other methods and materials for photo prints. Some of these will result in reflections from in and around your home or office. This includes prints framed and behind glass. Everything is possible, but many prefer a cleaner, simpler style without frame and reflections.
Scott has various price agreements with local printers and these prices fall with increased print volume. As a result, when you order a print or two, you should consider checking whether friends or family might also want a photo print. The larger order will reduce unit price and everyone wins! When Scott gets an order for several prints, he generally posts about this on his (Grasshopper Visual FB page) – so others can hop on the wagon and add to the print order (in the same sizes and materials) and benefit from lower unit prices.
Foam-Core Board:
- extremely light, and easy to hang on a single small nail or hook.
- surface and edges can be damaged fairly easily
- over time, larger prints can tend to warp slightly
- inexpensive
Aluminium sandwich plates:
- a little heavier – still possible to hang on single nail (except for VERY large prints)
- much more robust
- very stiff and stay flat – clearly high quality
- a bit more expensive
