Bio

Born in Canada, Scott Garriott began drawing seriously at a very young age. He grew up in British Columbia where he developed a passion for nature and art. With photography as an aid, he began to experiment in new mediums and styles. Scott represented British Columbia internationally at Expo 86, and between 1986 and 1992 his paintings and drawings were reproduced as prints, cards, and on calendars. In this time he won several prizes in nation-wide art competitions, though the extremely time-consuming originals were very few in number.
Following high school, Scott set art aside as he pursued education and training with the Canadian Armed Forces. In 1995 he graduated from Royal Roads Military College with a BSc. and went on to study and serve as a marine systems engineering officer in the Navy from the west coast. This work, which took him around world several times, so occupied him that his art virtually ceased. In 2000, following nearly ten years of service, he said goodbye to the Navy.
Scott married and moved to his wife’s hometown of Kristiansand in the south of Norway. Having rediscovered some free time, Scott learned the language and took some time to explore the pleasures of drawing with graphite and charcoal. His subject matter varied much more widely and he once again picked up the camera. He also learned HTML web design and began working in graphic art. Then, an education in drafting and 3D modelling saw his career move in a new direction.

Scott has spent more than 19 years working in engineering roles in Norway, developing innovative concepts, illustrating and animating them and communicating, often with the customers themselves. He is the inventor of a patent, has developed and presented numerous solutions and concepts around the world and continues to enjoy storytelling. Scott benefits from the very rare ability to bridge the often considerable gap between the worlds of engineering and art, marrying his artistic talents and creativity with his technical background.
His CAD and graphics work includes company logos, engineering animations, brochure and web graphics, simulator models and more. He continues to photograph on land, from his boat, in the air and under water. His photos have been displayed in and on the covers of various magazines and books while prints of both photos and his artwork have been sold and displayed in Canada, the USA, Europe and Asia.
